Topographies

A topographic map typically indicates the surface features of a region, by means of numerous curving lines each indicating the elevation of every location, offering a three-dimensional picture on a two-dimensional surface. Similarly, the contouring lines within these paintings construct a new language, one that expresses our own relationship with the locations we inhabit.

The paintings may resemble creatures, species, or ecosystems, but it is unclear where they belong; they could be visions of earth from outer space, cross sections of our bodies, or magnified microorganisms. What matters here, however, is not what these paintings are, but what they represent, for within this coexistence, everything is connected no matter where we are located.
